Yo internet! So I kinda took April off (wish I could say I was super busy, but that'd be a downright, dirty lie). With that being said, I'm going to kick off May with a quick sketch I did a few days ago. The colouring isn't supposed to look finished, I just wanted to throw a quick tonal mess over the line drawing for fun.

Weekend Weirdness
New drawing from the weekend, I did
this while hanging out with my friend Julie and decided her hair could
do with a giant, "praying mantis-esque" monster coming out of it.

Sketchbook Innards #2
Some new drawings from this week, and some oldies that I came across while flipping through my sketchbook. Hey, this is actually starting to look like, oh I don't know, a blog?
Yup, that.
Yup, that.

The Crow's Eye
A continuation of my series of "A Song of Ice and Fire" characters, I decided to do a little more on this one by adding some ink and colour.

The Colonization of Mars
An assignment for my Magazine Illustration class about the plausibility of a colony being built on Mars. I was pretty excited to do some space oriented pieces, and more specifically, ones addressing the realistic possibilities of human expansion throughout the solar system. The other space images I've produced this year, namely my thesis work, haven't been limited by any realistic parameters - which is fun - but thinking within the limitations of real life for this assignment was fun as well.
I obviously took some liberties in design and aesthetic, but at the same time I wanted the vehicles and buildings to have a look derivative of technologies existing today. The Discovery Space Shuttle, which was actually retired from service earlier this month, was a source of inspiration for the shuttle in the last image, while the writings on antimatter-fusion rockets by author Charles R. Pellegrino influenced the design of the Orbiter in the first image.

Primates
Hello, explorers of the interweb! With a little under two months left in my college career, I have finally made the leap into the digital world of blogging. So, to start it off, here is a painting from my Thesis series last semester. The idea began from a small sketch in my sketchbook, which I will try to find and post, and I think the painting ended up being one of the more successful pieces from an, otherwise, completely random and totally dissociated set of images.
